Veterans Strengthening America. Serving Our Community.

Welcome to American Legion Post 127 in Sugar Hill, Georgia!

For more than a century, The American Legion has brought veterans together through a shared commitment to service, patriotism, and fellowship. At Post 127, we're proud to continue that tradition by supporting our fellow veterans, honoring those who served, and making a positive difference in our community.

Whether you're a longtime Legionnaire, recently separated from military service, or looking for a way to reconnect with fellow veterans, we invite you to get to know Post 127 and become part of our mission.

Our History

Founded in 1919 by veterans returning from World War I, The American Legion has grown into one of the nation's largest veterans service organizations.

Throughout its history, the Legion has advocated for veterans' benefits, improved access to healthcare, educational opportunities, and recognition of the sacrifices made by our nation's servicemembers.

Locally, Post 127 traces its beginnings to Buford, Georgia, in 1921. After serving generations of veterans and families in the Buford community, the Post began a new chapter with its relocation to Sugar Hill.

Today, Post 127 continues building on that legacy while welcoming new generations of veterans and finding new ways to serve.

Visit our Post History page to learn more about the people and milestones that have shaped our Post.

Our Mission | The Four Pillars

The American Legion's mission is built upon four pillars that guide its advocacy, programs, and service to veterans and communities across the nation.

Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation

Supporting veterans and their families is at the heart of everything we do.
The American Legion advocates for access to quality healthcare, earned benefits, employment opportunities, and assistance for veterans transitioning to civilian life.
Through its nationwide network of accredited service officers, the Legion also provides free assistance with VA benefits and claims, helping veterans and their families understand and access the benefits they've earned.
The American Legion supports a strong national defense and advocates for the well-being of those currently serving in our Armed Forces.
This includes supporting military readiness, improving quality of life for servicemembers and their families, and ensuring our nation honors its commitments to those who defend it.
Patriotism, responsible citizenship, and respect for our nation's traditions remain central to The American Legion.
Through patriotic observances, flag education, community service, and programs that promote civic responsibility, Legionnaires help preserve the values and freedoms generations of Americans have served to protect.
Investing in young people means investing in the future of our communities.
The American Legion supports educational opportunities, scholarships, youth leadership development, and programs that encourage responsible citizenship.
National programs such as Boys State, Boys Nation, American Legion Baseball, and the Oratorical Contest are examples of the Legion's longstanding commitment to developing future generations.

Continuing the Mission at Post 127

Our commitment to service doesn't end when we take off the uniform.

At Post 127, members have opportunities to stay connected, contribute their experience, and make a difference through volunteer activities, committees, and community involvement.

Our Honor Guard helps preserve the dignity and traditions of military service through funeral honors, flag retirement ceremonies, and patriotic observances.

Initiatives such as our 40s & Under Committee also help engage younger members of the Legion Family, encourage new ideas, and create opportunities for service, fellowship, and future leadership.

Whether you're interested in honoring veterans, participating in community activities, helping with Post projects, or getting more involved in leadership, there are many ways to contribute.

Just as importantly, Post 127 offers something many veterans value: a place to connect with others who understand the experiences, sacrifices, and camaraderie of military service.

Be the One | Supporting Our Fellow Veterans

Looking out for one another has always been part of military service, and that responsibility continues long after we return home.

The American Legion's national Be the One initiative focuses on reducing veteran and service member suicide by encouraging connection, awareness, and access to support.

Through education, suicide prevention training, and opportunities to reach out to fellow veterans, the initiative reminds us that even a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

Everyone has a role to play in supporting those who have served.

Membership | Your Service Continues Here

The American Legion welcomes eligible veterans and current service members from all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Under the LEGION Act of 2019, membership eligibility generally includes individuals who have served honorably on qualifying federal active duty at any time since December 7, 1941.

You do not need to have served overseas, deployed to a combat zone, or retired from the military to qualify. National Guard and Reserve members may also be eligible based on their qualifying military service.

Not sure if you're eligible? We encourage you to reach out to our Post. We'd be happy to help you understand the membership requirements and learn more about joining.

Membership offers an opportunity to build friendships, stay connected with fellow veterans, participate in meaningful service, and help shape the future of Post 127.
