American Legion Auxiliary Unit 127
Service Not Self | Supporting Veterans, Families, and Our Community
Welcome to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 127 in Sugar Hill, Georgia!
As an important part of the American Legion Family at Post 127, our Auxiliary is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of our nation's veterans while supporting military families, promoting patriotism, and serving our community.
Through volunteer service, charitable programs, and community involvement, Auxiliary members carry forward a proud tradition of service while building friendships and connections that extend well beyond the Post.
Our History
The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) was established in 1919, shortly after the founding of The American Legion, to provide families of veterans an opportunity to continue serving their country and communities.
By 1920, more than 1,300 local Auxiliary units had been organized across the country. The organization's first National Convention was held in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1921.
What began as an organization supporting veterans returning from World War I has grown into a nationwide community of volunteers dedicated to veterans, service members, their families, and future generations.
Today, that mission continues through local units like Auxiliary Unit 127, where members give their time, talents, and commitment to supporting those who have served.
Our Programs and Service
The American Legion Auxiliary supports a variety of national programs that honor veterans, strengthen communities, promote patriotism, and provide opportunities for young people.
Poppy Program
The red poppy has long served as a symbol of remembrance and sacrifice. Since 1924, the Auxiliary has played a leading role in distributing memorial poppies to honor those who served and raise funds to support veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families.
Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation
Through volunteer opportunities and support programs, Auxiliary members help improve the lives of veterans, including those receiving care through VA medical facilities and other veteran support services.
ALA Girls State & Girls Nation
These nationally recognized programs provide young women with opportunities to develop leadership skills, learn about government, and experience the responsibilities of citizenship.
At Girls State, participants take part in a hands-on educational experience centered on state and local government. Selected participants advance to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C., where they learn about the federal government through a simulated legislative process.
Children, Youth & Community Service
The Auxiliary also supports programs focused on education, scholarships, military children, family assistance, and community service.
Through these initiatives, members help strengthen their communities while encouraging patriotism, responsible citizenship, and a continued commitment to serving others.

Women veterans who qualify for membership in The American Legion through their own military service
Eligibility is subject to the applicable military service requirements, qualifying family relationships, and national membership guidelines.
